I searched the Internet for lists of the best or greatest movies released between 2000 and 2009. Criteria included the movies being ranked, not just listed, and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 28 lists. I took the 28 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every film. I ended up averaging the rankings each movie got (there were 318 that were on at least 2 lists) and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that movie was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The movies that were on the most lists (out of 28) were:

  • The Dark Knight (2008) – 23 lists
  • There Will Be Blood (2007) – 23 lists
  • No Country for Old Men (2007) – 22 lists
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) – 21 lists
  • Spirited Away (2001) – 21 lists
  • Almost Famous (2000) – 20 lists
  • Memento (2000) – 19 lists
  • The Departed (2006) – 19 lists
  • Children of Men (2006) – 19 lists
  • Lost in Translation (2003) – 19 lists
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) – 18 lists
  • Inglourious Basterds (2009) – 18 lists
  • Mulholland Drive (2001) – 18 lists
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) – 17 lists
  • Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) – 17 lists

Here are links to the lists I used along with dates the lists were created:
