I was able to find 11 lists of best Broadway musicals of all time. I took the 11 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every show. There were 57 that were on at least 2 lists. I ended up averaging the rankings each one got and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists it was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The musicals that were on the most lists (out of 11) were:

  • Hamilton (2015-present) – 10 lists
  • Wicked (2003-present) – 10 lists
  • Les Miserables (1987-2003) – 9 lists
  • The Phantom of the Opera (1988-2023) – 8 lists
  • The Lion King (1997-present) – 8 lists
  • Cats (1982-2000) – 7 lists
