I searched the Internet for lists of the best country artists of all time. Criteria included them being ranked, not just listed, not just male or female artists, and lists generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 21 lists. I took those 21 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every singer. I averaged the rankings each one got and divided that average by a factor of the number of lists that artist was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The artists that were on the most lists (out of 21) were:

  • Johnny Cash – all 21 lists
  • Willie Nelson – all 21 lists
  • George Strait – all 21 lists
  • Hank Williams – 20 lists
  • Dolly Parton – 20 lists
  • George Jones – 20 lists
  • Garth Brooks – 20 lists
  • Merle Haggard – 19 lists
  • Loretta Lynn – 19 lists
  • Patsy Cline – 18 lists
  • Waylon Jennings – 17 lists
  • Conway Twitty – 16 lists
  • Tammy Wynette – 16 lists
