I searched the Internet for lists of the best songs by Elton John. Criteria included the songs being ranked, not just listed, and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 30 lists. I took the 30 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every song. I ended up averaging the rankings each song got (there were 115 that were on at least 2 lists) and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that song was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The songs that were on the most lists (out of 30) were:

  • Tiny Dancer (1971) – all 30 lists
  • Rocket Man (1972) – 29 lists
  • Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) – 29 lists
  • Your Song (1970) – 28 lists
  • Bennie and the Jets (1974) – 28 lists
  • I’m Still Standing (1983) – 25 lists
  • Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting (1973) – 25 lists
  • Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me (1991) – 25 lists
  • Crocodile Rock (1972) – 21 lists
  • I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues (1983) – 20 lists
  • Candle in the Wind (1973) – 20 lists

Here are links to the lists I used along with dates the lists were created:
