I searched far and wide for lists of best Summer movies of all time. Criteria included the movies being ranked, not just listed, and covering all time, not just a decade. The lists were generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 49 lists. I took the 49 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every film. I ended up averaging the rankings each movie got (there were 194 that were on at least 2 lists) and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that movie was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The movies that were on the most lists (out of 49) were:

  • Jaws (1975) – 40 lists
  • The Sandlot (1993) – 28 lists
  • Dirty Dancing (1987) – 26 lists
  • Stand By Me (1986) – 24 lists
  • Do the Right Thing (1989) – 23 lists
  • Mamma Mia! (2008) – 22 lists
  • The Parent Trap (1998) – 22 lists
  • Grease (1978) – 21 lists
  • Dazed and Confused (1993) – 20 lists
  • Adventureland (2009) – 20 lists
  • I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) – 20 lists
