I searched the Internet for lists of the best Tim Burton movies of all time. Criteria included the movies being ranked, not just listed, and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 62 lists. Some were just movies he directed and some included ones that he produced. I decided to use all of them. I took the 62 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every film. I ended up averaging the rankings each movie got and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that movie was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom. (I’m not including links to all the lists because there are just so many.)

The movies that were on the most lists (out of 62) were:

  • Edward Scissorhands (1990) – 61 lists
  • Beetlejuice (1988) – 60 lists
  • Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) – 56 lists
  • Big Fish (2003) – 52 lists
  • Ed Wood (1994) – 51 lists
  • Corpse Bride (2005) – 51 lists
  • Batman (1989) – 50 lists
  • Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) – 50 lists
  • Batman Returns (1992) – 49 lists
  • Sleepy Hollow (1999) – 49 lists
  • Frankenweenie (2012) – 49 lists
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) – 48 lists
