I searched the Internet for lists of the best or greatest martial arts movies of all time. Criteria included the movies being ranked, not just listed, preferably all martial arts, and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 33 lists. I took the 33 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every film. I ended up averaging the rankings each movie got (there were 198 that were on at least 2 lists) and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that movie was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The movies that were on the most lists (out of 33) were:

  • Enter the Dragon (1973) – 27 lists
  • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) – 26 lists
  • Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (2003) – 23 lists
  • The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) – 22 lists
  • Hero (2002) – 18 lists
  • Ip Man (2008) – 18 lists
  • Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) – 18 lists
  • Drunken Master (1978) – 18 lists
  • Once Upon a Time in China (1991) – 18 lists

Here are links to the lists I used along with dates the lists were created:
