I searched the Internet for lists of the best sketches by Monty Python. Criteria included the sketches being ranked, not just listed, and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I found 20 different ranked lists online of “best or favorite Monty Python sketches or scenes.” Then I averaged the rankings each one got and divided that average by a factor of the number of lists they were on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The characters that were on the most lists (out of 20):

  • Dead Parrot – 18 lists
  • The Lumberjack Song – 18 lists
  • The Ministry of Silly Walks – 15 lists
  • The Spanish Inquisition – 15 lists
  • The Funniest Joke in the World – 15 lists
  • Argument Clinic – 14 lists
