I was able to find 34 lists of best scenic train trips. I took the 34 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every train journey. I ended up averaging the rankings each one got and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists it was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The trips that were on the most lists (out of 34) were:

  • Grand Canyon Railway – 25 lists
  • Amtrak California Zephyr – 25 lists
  • Amtrak Coast Starlight – 24 lists
  • Amtrak Empire Builder – 22 lists
