I searched the Internet for lists of the best episodes of The Simpsons. Criteria included the episodes being ranked, not just listed and generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I found 28 different ranked lists online of “best Simpsons episodes.” Then I averaged the rankings each episode got and divided that average by a factor of the number of lists that episode was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The episodes that were on the most lists (out of 28):

  • Marge vs. the Monorail (S4 E12) – 27 lists
  • Cape Feare (S5 E2) – 23 lists
  • Mr. Plow (S4 E9) – 23 lists
  • You Only Move Twice (S8 E2) – 21 lists
  • Last Exit to Springfield (S4 E17) – 19 lists
  • 22 Short Films About Springfield (S7 E21) – 19 lists
  • Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One) (S6 E25) – 18 lists
  • Homer at the Bat (S3 E17) – 17 lists
  • Rosebud (S5 E4) – 17 lists
  • Deep Space Homer (S5 E15) – 17 lists
