I searched far and wide for lists of best Thanksgiving movies of all time. Criteria included the movies being ranked, not just listed, and covering all time, not just a decade. Some interpretations of what makes a “Thanksgiving movie” were a little different, so I didn’t include lists that were “quirky movies” or “funny movies” to watch on Thanksgiving. The lists were generally created by groups, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 40 lists. I took the 40 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every film. I ended up averaging the rankings each movie got (there were 83 that were on at least 2 lists) and dividing that average by a factor of the number of lists that movie was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The movies that were on the most lists (out of 40) were:

  • Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) – 39 lists
  • Addams Family Values (1993) – 32 lists
  • Home for the Holidays (1995) – 32 lists
  • Pieces of April (2003) – 31 lists
  • A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) – 29 lists
  • The Ice Storm (1997) – 27 lists
  • You’ve Got Mail (1998) – 24 lists
  • Krisha (2015) – 21 lists
  • Scent of a Woman (1992) – 21 lists
  • Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) – 20 lists
  • Grumpy Old Men (1993) – 18 lists

Here are links to the lists I used along with dates the lists were created:
